What a Hair Transplant in Egypt Costs

Medically reviewed byConsultant Plastic Surgeon & Hair Transplant SpecialistLast reviewed: 10 September 2026
Short answer

As a planning range, a hair transplant in Egypt runs roughly EGP 35,000 to EGP 100,000 — but that range describes a market, not your case. The figure that matters is set by how many grafts you need.

Until a clinic has examined your scalp and counted the zones, any number it gives you is a marketing figure rather than a price. So the useful first step is a graft estimate for your own head, which you can then put in front of every clinic on your shortlist.

Nobody can give you a real price for a hair transplant without knowing how many grafts you need. This guide from HairX Clinics explains what actually drives the cost of treatment in Egypt, what a quote should contain before you sign it, and how to compare two quotes that look nothing like each other.

Why is the graft count the price?

A hair transplant is priced on how many follicular units are moved. A receding hairline on its own might need well under two thousand grafts. A hairline plus temples, frontal area, mid-scalp and crown can run past three and a half thousand. Same operation, same surgeon, very different afternoon — and a very different figure.

That is why we start with your graft count rather than a price list, and why the range above is orientation rather than a quote. How many grafts you need tracks closely with how far your loss has progressed, which is what the Norwood scale measures.

Worth knowing: a quote with no graft number attached is not a price. It is an opening position. Ask for the number in writing before you compare it with anything.

How do you get a graft estimate before paying anything?

Our free hair analysis takes five photographs of your scalp and returns an estimated graft count for each zone — hairline, temples, frontal, mid-scalp and crown — along with a visualisation of how your hair could look at day one, month three, month six and month twelve, and a PDF you keep.

Send it back to us and we will price that plan for you. There is no charge and no obligation, and the PDF is yours to take to any other clinic you are considering.

Why does treatment in Egypt cost less than in Britain?

Because a surgical day in Cairo costs less to deliver than a surgical day in London. Premises, salaries and overheads in Egypt are a fraction of British ones, and that difference accounts for most of the gap between the two.

It is not because fewer grafts are placed, or because the operation is shorter, or because a technician does the parts a surgeon should. If a price difference comes from any of those things, that is a different kind of cheap — and it is worth knowing which kind you are being offered, wherever in the world you are being offered it.

What should a quote include, and what is extra?

Your quote should cover the consultation and examination, the procedure itself, post-operative medication and aftercare, and follow-up — in person at the clinic if you are in Egypt, or online once you have flown home.

Flights, your hotel and getting around Egypt are separate. We can arrange the hotel and the transfers for you, and most patients travelling from abroad ask us to. Tell us your dates and we will give you those costs as a separate figure you can check against the booking sites yourself.

On all-inclusive packages: one price covering flights, hotel, transfers and surgery is convenient, and it is also the easiest place to hide what you are paying for the operation itself. Ask for the medical cost on its own line, in any country.

Where does the money inside the price actually go?

Two things inside the price move the result more than anything else, and neither of them is the technique name on the brochure.

The first is surgeon time. Opening the channels and designing the hairline is the one step in the operation with no way back — it fixes the angle, direction and density of every hair permanently. A clinic that puts a surgeon on that step for your whole procedure is spending money that a clinic delegating it is saving.

The second is graft handling. Follicles outside the body have no blood supply. Preservation solution, temperature control, microscope sorting and a team large enough to keep the out-of-body time short all cost money, and all raise the percentage of grafts that survive. You cannot see any of it in a before-and-after photograph, which is exactly why it is the first thing cut when a price is driven down.

What five questions make two quotes comparable?

Two prices only mean something if they describe the same operation. Ask every clinic on your shortlist — including us — these five things, and put the answers side by side.

  • How many grafts is this price based on? A figure with no graft number attached is a starting position, not a price. Get the number in writing.
  • Who actually performs the extraction and the implantation? In some clinics a surgeon designs the hairline and technicians do everything else. That is not automatically wrong, but you should know it before, not after.
  • How many operations does that surgeon do in a day? A clinic running six patients through one surgeon is selling you a share of his attention.
  • What happens if the result is poor? Ask what the guarantee covers, what triggers it, and who pays to fly you back.
  • Who do I speak to at month three, when it looks worse? The shedding phase is normal and it frightens people. A clinic that cannot tell you who answers the phone then has not thought about your year, only your deposit.

Is a low price a bad sign?

It is worth saying plainly, because the honest version of this advice cuts both ways. A lower price in Egypt is not evidence of a worse operation, and a higher price in London is not evidence of a better one. Cost of delivery explains most of the gap.

What should worry you is a price that is low for its own market. If a clinic in Cairo is materially cheaper than other clinics in Cairo, something in that operation is being shortened — and it is usually surgeon time or graft handling.

One honest caveat

No clinic anywhere can give you a final, binding figure from photographs alone. Donor density, scalp laxity and whether your hair loss has stopped all need an examination in person, and any of them can change the plan. What we can do is give you a clear figure for a clear plan before you spend anything, and tell you honestly at examination if that plan has to change and why.

And if your loss is still active, the honest answer may be that medical treatment comes before surgery, not after it.

Why give a range rather than a price?

Because a single published figure would be wrong for most people who read it. The number follows your graft count, and the graft count follows your scalp. The range tells you what the market looks like; the estimate tells you what your case looks like.

Can you quote me from photographs?

We can give you a graft estimate and a price for that plan from photographs. It is not binding until an examination in person confirms donor density and scalp laxity, and we will tell you if anything changes and why.

Does the price include a second session if I need one?

Usually not, anywhere. Some advanced cases are planned as two sessions over a year or more. Ask explicitly what a second session would cost before you book the first.

Is a hair transplant covered by insurance?

Generally no. It is classified as a cosmetic procedure by most policies, with occasional exceptions for hair loss caused by burns, injury or surgical scarring.

Do you arrange the hotel and transfers?

Yes, and most patients travelling from abroad ask us to. Those costs are quoted separately from the medical fee so you can check them yourself.

For UK readers specifically: the NHS does not fund this, and its own page puts the private UK range at £1,000 to £30,000. The NHS checklist for surgery abroad covers what to establish before you compare any two quotes.

This article is general information, not individual medical advice. Whether a hair transplant suits you at all depends on a clinical examination of your donor area and scalp. The range given is a planning estimate for the Egyptian market rather than a quotation from HairX Clinics, and results vary between patients.
